The Musical Nights of Le Suquet 2008
From July 18 to 30, 2008
Forecourt of Notre-Dame d’Espรฉrance Church โ Cannes
Diversity is the hallmark of these 33rd “Musical Nights of Le Suquet,” which aim to be more international than ever, reflecting the character of the City of Cannes.
This year there is a particular desire, which no one would complain about, to highlight the piano.
Talented and different personalities such as Nikolaรฏ Lugansky, Dimitri Naรฏditch, Fazil Say, Marie-Josรจphe Jude, Michel Bรฉroff, Roger Muraro, and Boris Berezovsky will brilliantly represent the pianistic and musical traditions of their countries. Also present will be one of the most renowned string quartets today, the Fine Arts Quartet, which I always enjoy discovering in Dvoลรกk’s quintet. Caroline Casadesus and Didier Lockwood will offer us one of those unusual evenings so beloved by the Suquet audience.
Coming from nearby, the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra ranks among the best French orchestras and will be conducted by the Italian conductor Sergio Monterisi. Finally, the great Russian cellist Alexandre Kniazev will return to the forecourt of Notre-Dame d’Espรฉrance to pay tribute to Mstislav Rostropovich.
The “Young Revelations” concerts at 7 p.m. in the courtyard of the Musรฉe de la Castre attract an ever-growing audience eager for discoveries each year. Four concerts, three pianists, the French Franรงois Dumont, the Swedish Cรฉcilia Lรถfstrand, the Japanese Etsuko Hirose, and the winner of the Monte-Carlo Masters (singing).
