Bringing the biggest names in electronic music and asking only a 5€ entry fee for a “concert” evening on the sands of the Palais des Festivals beach, with headline acts, is the feat that David Bartoli and his team of wild ones will repeat for the fourth year.
The rascals plan to extend the enjoyment until August 13th with five evenings as diverse as they are explosive in terms of atmosphere.
Imagine a large beach in the summer, bustling in the morning with tourists and regulars enjoying the sun, sea, and sand. In a few hours, this will transform into a massive anthill where more than a hundred volunteers and technicians will bustle about in very tough weather conditions due to the heat.
But their enthusiasm is such that it will help them transform the stretch of sand into a huge open-air concert hall with several thousand seats.
This year, for the first time, the organizers will call on professionals in technology and sound to bring even more professionalism to their event and more listening comfort for the audience.
The technical post’s budget has been doubled financially, necessitating the search for new funding sources to cover a budget that reaches €430,000. As direct public subsidies are currently only €12,000, the math is quickly done and leads to very substantial self-financing.
Without the constant support of the city of Cannes and its first deputy David Lisnard, who was immediately charmed by the project, nothing would have been conceivable.
Among the changes, let’s note the shift from Wednesday to Thursday as the musical party night, a particular effort to improve the fluidity of entries, and a later closure date (August 13th).
A choice that will allow even better continuity with the Pantiéro Festival, which starts just before the end of the “Beaches.”
They are not just becoming a musical reference; the organizers also support several Cannes humanitarian associations. In 2008, five of them shared a donation of €12,000, representing 50% of the event’s profits. A commendable gesture worthy of note and acclaim.
This operation of the “Electronic Beaches” is concrete proof that the combination of Beach + Modest Entrance Price + High-Level Programming perfectly suits the public.
Who would have bet on such success in 2006 when there were only a few hundred on the beach? They were between 15,000 and 18,000 on the Cannes sand in 2008, how many for this fourth year? The organizing team hopes for 30,000…
To make this even more impactful, a single condition. Participate as much as possible in this grand celebration, whose first evening will take place on Thursday, July 2nd, setting the tone for this 2009 edition.
It’s an opportunity for two groups from Nice to perform on a big stage close to home.
In Cannes, the Palais beach goes electronic for more than a month and during five evenings not to be missed.
I reserve my spot!
