The day after Emmanuel Macron’s solemn address to Congress at Versailles, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe asked the National Assembly for its confidence this Wednesday after detailing the executive’s projects in a general policy speech.
Unsurprisingly, the deputies granted him this confidence with a large majority: 370 votes in favor, 67 votes against, and 129 abstentions.
In the Nouvelle Gauche group (formerly the Socialist Party), 23 members abstained, while 5 voted against and 3 in favor.
Within the main opposition group, The Republicans, from which Edouard Philippe originates, 75 out of 100 deputies abstained, including their president.
France Insoumise, with its 17 members, was the only group unanimously against. Twelve out of the 16 elected members of the Communist group also voted against, as did the eight FN deputies and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan.
