Fifteen months before the 7th Games of La Francophonie, which will take place in our city from September 6 to 15, 2013, the National Committee of the Games of La Francophonie (CNJF) is officially settling in Nice this Monday, July 9 at 12:30 PM at Ville Massรฉna.

It is an important moment for Nice, which will host this 7th edition of the Games of La Francophonie from September 6 to 15, 2013.

The CNJF is tasked with organizing these Games in collaboration with the International Committee of the Games of La Francophonie (CIJF), an entity of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) led by President Abdou Diouf.

The legal structure of the CNJF is a Public Interest Group (GIP) with Christian Estrosi as president and Frรฉdรฉric Jugnet as director-general. Jugnet is an inspector general for youth and sports made available to the CNJF by the Minister of Sports. He has also been an interministerial delegate for major sports events and was the director of major sports events such as the Men’s European Basketball Championships in 1999 and Women’s in 2011.

The Games of La Francophonie represent the largest sporting and cultural event of La Francophonie dedicated to the youth. They are organized every four years during the post-Olympic year, under the aegis of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) by the International Committee of the Games of La Francophonie (CIJF) and the National Committee of the Games of La Francophonie (CNJF).

The 75 states and governments of La Francophonie are invited to participate in the event. The organizers have already registered 51 states committed to this upcoming edition. More than 3,000 young talents, athletes, or artists, thousands of spectators and young volunteers, as well as millions of listeners and viewers, are expected for this gathering, which demonstrates an enhanced commitment of the OIF towards the youth.

The 2013 edition will be modern, eco-responsible, and will embody the values of solidarity, diversity, and excellence. The program includes 7 sports competitions, 7 cultural contests, and 2 new contests in ecological and digital creation. New disciplines will inject reinforced dynamics into the event: freestyle wrestling and African wrestling on the sports side, street arts on the cultural side with three events: freestyle juggling, giant puppets, and hip-hop.

The cultural pre-selections have started and are currently taking place in the member countries of La Francophonie. A tour of the regional cultural juries, mandated by the CIJF, is scheduled for October 2012 to proceed with the ranking of artists and their final selection planned by November 30, 2012. Sports qualifications will occur before December 15, 2012, and will be organized by the CIJF in close collaboration with partner international sports federations.

For the record, the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) includes 56 states and governments and 19 observers.
