The National Day of Resistance was celebratedโ€”with the constraints of this periodโ€”with a wreath-laying in the gardens of Villa Thiole.

This date corresponds to the creation of the National Council of Resistance on May 27, 1943, centered around the figure of Jean Moulin.

This event will serve as an opportunity to recall the still relevant legacy of the National Council of Resistance. It is an occasion to reflect on the values of the Resistance and those advocated by the program of the National Council of Resistance.

The historical account of this anniversary was read by Mr. Jean-Louis PANICACCI (former professor and President of the Friends of the Azurian Resistance Museum Association).

The date of May 27 refers to the first meeting of the National Council of Resistance (CNR) which took place on May 27, 1943, in the apartment of Renรฉ Corbin, on the first floor of 48 rue du Four in Paris. Delegate of General de Gaulle, Jean Moulin sought to establish this council with the aim of unifying the various often disorganized and compartmentalized Resistance movements and coordinating Resistance actions. Under Jean Moulin’s presidency, the National Council of Resistance brought together representatives of the eight major resistance movements, the two major pre-war labor unions, as well as representatives of the six main political parties of the Third Republic.

After the Liberation, the Resistance’s action program, known as “The Happy Days,” was published in 1944 and led to the implementation of economic, social, and political reforms prioritizing access to education for all and laying the foundations of the French social model. It also inspired the drafting of the preamble to the Constitution of the Fourth Republic, which is one of the fundamental texts of our current law.
