Last Saturday, on the eve of International Women’s Rights Day, the second edition of the “Femmes Foot Five” took place at the Urban Soccer complex in Villeneuve-Loubet. This event was initiated by the Olympic and Sports Committee of the Alpes Maritimes department with the support of the Côte d’Azur football district.
This tournament, focused on bridging the economic world with the local sports movement around values such as “team spirit, solidarity, and performance,” saw about fifty female players come together to share this sporting moment.
Initiated last year for the first time on the occasion of the 2019 Women’s World Cup, this 100% female interprofessional five-a-side soccer event aims to encourage the practice of sport, particularly football, among active women in both the private and public sectors, across all branches in the Alpes-Maritimes.
For some, it was a day of discovering five-a-side football, while for others it was a chance to hone their skills, all under the watchful eye of district president Edouard Delamotte.
After numerous matches throughout the day, the final saw the team from the National Sports Museum win over the Caram’elles association team, with a score of 5 to 1.
“As chairwoman of the CDOS 06 women’s commission, I am truly delighted that this friendly and sporty event has generated so much interest among companies and their employees. It was a fantastic promotion of women’s sport and sport in general that we all experienced during this day!” concluded Dominique Bertolotto.
Surrounded by local officials from the Department and Villeneuve Loubet, and the football and Olympic community, each team was awarded trophies and prizes, along with invitations to attend matches of OGC Nice and AS Monaco football clubs, in anticipation of the 3rd edition.
