The players from the County of Nice clinched the title by winning 5-4 in a penalty shootout against the Isle of Man after a scoreless draw at the end of the 90 minutes of regulation time.
About 200 fans of OGC Nice came to the Palais Nikaïa to watch the broadcast of the final of the World Cup for unrecognized countries. In front of the building, the faithful of the Populaire Sud gathered around firecrackers and smoke bombs, singing the usual chants of the stands.
Before the kickoff, the whole room joined in to sing “Nissa la bella” during the anthems, before starting the usual “clapping” of the Allianz Riviera. Alongside their most famous supporter, Alexy Bossetti, the members of the South stand kept the atmosphere lively up to the final celebration, despite a tense and highly physically contested match.
At the final whistle, the tension rose a notch with the penalty shootout. A first explosion of joy erupted when one of the players from the Isle of Man missed his attempt. The Nice supporters exploded with joy after the victorious penalty, singing the famous “We are the champions,” filled with pride. As they left the Palais Nikaïa, they did it again with smoke bombs and firecrackers.
