The Haliotis 2 Water House was inaugurated yesterday with the presence of the mayor as well as the people in charge of the construction of this wastewater treatment plant. An inauguration that opens a new chapter toward a better future.
In response to the current major challenges concerning water, the decision was made to modernize the Haliotis treatment plant to create a cutting-edge complex serving the entire territory: Haliotis 2. This is a significant technological and sustainable development hub project, as Haliotis 2 will give the Metropolis a new head start.
Representing a market of 700 million euros, the new plant will meet future environmental and sanitary standards and the upcoming needs of the community. It will treat the wastewater of 26 municipalities (currently 20), which equates to 680,000 inhabitants.

A long-term project
By 2030, this project aims to be four times more productive and ten times less energy-demanding than the previous plant. With the new methanation production system, the generation of biomethane will allow heating for the equivalent of 11,000 homes or fuel 290 buses with biofuel. This plant will prevent 15,000 tons of CO2 annually.
Thanks to this project, the company Dalkia will produce heating and cooling for the entire Nice Airport, the Phoenix park, and all surrounding areas of this neighborhood. The energy will be produced at just 5 cents per kWh. Christian Estrosi announces a drop in energy prices to seven cents. Meanwhile, the remaining untreated water will be used to irrigate the city’s plants. In short, no wastage.
