The Occitan Cultural Center País Nissart e Alpenc has just published the 2012 Nissart Calendar, its 8th edition. It highlights Nice’s architectural heritage over 10 pages and the independent and official Carnivals over 2 pages.
The cover features the float we created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Occitan Cultural Center País Nissart e Alpenc (it depicted the eagle of Nice and the radio Nissa Pantai listened to by two ratapignatas).
The old photos come from Gilletta.Nice-Matin editions and the Library of Congress (Washington) and are accompanied by their current photo.
You’ll discover vanished monuments like the Saint Dominique church, the Old Bridge, the Imperial High School, the 1st Jetée Promenade, the New Bridge, the Municipal Casino, and lo Barri Lònc.
You will also discover that Napoleon Bonaparte was imprisoned in Nice, in August 1794 in the Port prison (lo Barri Lònc), which has just been partially restored, but no plaque commemorates this event.
In February, you will see that the 2011 Independent Carnival showcased the bicycle in all its forms from Libération to Garibaldi.
The entire Calendar (printed in 200 copies) is written in Nissart (òc), the dates, the holidays, and accompanied by comments.
