The first performance of the Nice Artists’ Collective took place in Place Massรฉna, and it was a great success.
There was a crowd at Place Massรฉna on this very sunny day. The Nice Artists’ Collective (CAN) had decided to go all out with the organization of its first “Coup de Can.” These events, aimed at highlighting Nice’s culture, take place outdoors to comply with current health restrictions.
The group of Nice artists was created very recently. “We are about ten friends, and we support each other in our different shows,” explains Franck Viano, one of the CAN leaders. “We opened this collective for mutual assistance and sharing. These are not common notions these days, so we wanted to bring them back into vogue.”
For this debut, the CAN had planned a musical performance by Diane Frรฉmaux. With her soprano voice, she emotionally performed the piece by Henry Purcell, “The Death of Dido.” It was also a little nod to the Carnavalovirus sculpture, in front of which the artists were placed.
Reviving the Culture Sector
In this magnificent performance, Diane Frรฉmaux was accompanied on the violin by Marie-Caroline Regottaz. The violinist adorned a sumptuous dress made of 550 surgical masks! This dress was created by the artist herself in collaboration with the New Planet association to show the negative impact of waste on the planet.
Named Pandemic, this outfit carried a double meaning: it protects from COVID-19, but it is also a danger to the planet. “It’s a tribute to the victims,” acknowledges Marie-Caroline Regottaz. “Even if it’s presented humorously with the Carnival spirit, we must not forget that the virus kills thousands of people on the planet.”
With this pleasant activity, the Collective enjoys a bit of respite during this delicate period for the cultural sector. Further “Coups de Can” are expected to take place in the coming weeks. Smiles, joy, and good spirits were comforting elements for the many artists and spectators present at this delightful moment.
