Christian Estrosi announced this afternoon to reassure the people of Nice in the face of an alarming health situation.

While Olivier Vรฉran, the Minister of Health, announces that the number of infections in the last 24 hours in France is close to 300,000, and the critical health situation in the metropolis (the top city in France where the virus is spreading the most) and in the department (with an incidence rate over 1000) is critical, there is doubt over the holding of the 2022 edition of the Nice Carnival.

The Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, held a press conference around 4 pm on Tuesday, January 4, 2021.
He confirmed that the carnival would not be canceled, explaining that a decrease in infections was expected in February: “We have some reasons to think that we might see an improvement in the health situation by February. Nothing could justify depriving the local economy of this event.”

However, the mayor of the Azurean warned that no matter the health situation at the time of the event (11/02 to 27/02), strict measures will be implemented.
“There will be Carnival, but maybe not the Carnival we have known before (โ€ฆ) If we had to organize events with 2,500 people, we would do so,”
Entry will obviously be subject to the presentation of a health pass, but it will also be necessary to “adapt to the limits,” as this is “what will allow holding the event.”

The Mayor and the city teams are giving themselves “a fortnight” to determine the final arrangements for this 2022 edition.
