After the second round of municipal elections (June 28) and the session for the formal election of the Mayor and their deputies with the corresponding delegations, the Municipal Council met once again a few days later to complete the appointments of deputies and commissions and to get the municipal administration back in working order after the long break due to the pandemic.
The goal was to assign names to the territorial deputies, reduced from nine to six (no longer coinciding with departmental cantons – as Philippe Vardon (RN) happily noted, highlighting the subtle expedient of the previous term when territorial deputies then became candidates for successive departmental elections, benefiting from increased notoriety and other advantages). Christian Estrosi emphasized that the branches managed by the delegates should serve as a relay for the issues facing the regions.
A supporter of the โascending subsidiarityโ formula, we will see if Christian Estrosi applies this principle to himself.
Elected after a tiring process โ is it strictly necessary to follow it to the letter? Could someone inform the legislator that electronic voting has been invented and is used even at the United Nations? – the โvoices of the bossโ will be:
- Isabelle Visentin (Centre)
- Monique Bailet (West)
- Fatima Khaldi (East)
- Pascal Condomitti (Hills)
- Franck Martin (Heights of Nice)
- Philippe Soussi (Heart of the City).
In the process, members of the Tender Commission and the Communal Center for Social Action (CCAS) were also elected. Both commissions will be chaired by Marc Concas and Jennifer Salles-Barbosa.
Finally, a resolution, voted unanimously, formalized funding for the animation activities of the “Summer in Nice” program, set up urgently after the cancellation of festivals and shows due to the pandemic. There is also the possibility of economically supporting companies and artistic groups struggling with a lack of economic income. About 250,000 euros will act as an oxygen boost for this sector, which is still economically challenged.
Finally, good news for Nice households: the Council has reduced property taxes by two points for both built and undeveloped land. The opposition readily pointed out that a metropolitan tax was introduced โ far more significant in terms of additional costs in 2019 โ and the chief financial officer Philippe Pradal easily responded that each assembly determines its fiscal policy based on its budgetary requirements. This is the case even if the taxpayer remains the same.
