In the Alpes-Maritimes, currently around 15,000 tests per day are being conducted, and the presence of the Omicron variant is strong, including even in wastewater, on the Azurean territory, complemented by an ongoing wave of the Delta variant.
“If the incidence rate is 1053 this morning […] I am announcing to you a figure that is even more terrifying,” specified the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, before giving the incidence rate for 20-40 year olds, which is 1800 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants. “The numbers speak for themselves, they are undeniable, and we know that they will continue to increase in the coming days, in a constant, if not […] exponential and accelerated manner,” emphasized the Mayor of Nice.
Measures for the Christmas market, New Year’s Eve, and the funfair
In Nice, on New Year’s Eve, Friday, December 31, the Christmas market will close its doors at 7 PM. On January 1 and 2, visitors will not be allowed to stay beyond 8 PM. This decision is also motivated by security constraints.
The Mayor of Nice has also taken measures for “the funfair [which] will close permanently on Saturday evening, prematurely.”
Numerous cultural and sporting events are looming: postponements, cancellations? This will depend on the figures to be communicated by the Regional Health Agency in the next 24 or 48 hours.
Additional decisions will be made after final meetings with security actors, health officials, and the prefect of Alpes-Maritimes. A communication is expected during the day.
