MANDELA: The activist of the Union of Peoples has died! The Alpes-Maritimes Federation of the French Communist Party calls for a gathering in tribute to Nelson MANDELA this Monday, December 9th at 6:30 p.m. at Place Garibaldi.
What can be said a few hours after the death of such a charismatic man, so imposing by his presence, his activism, his relentless pursuit of human emancipation. Yes, Nelson Mandela was all of this and, for communist activists, the symbol of the struggle for freedom, peace, the union of peoples, a symbol of the fight against racism. Respect and thank you to this man of honor and courage!
The fight against apartheid, up to the boycott, and for the liberation of Nelson Mandela have profoundly marked the history of the French Communist Party as well as the people of the Azure Coast. The PCF and the communist youth were part of all the struggles, particularly in a department like ours where Jacques Mรฉdecin dared to twin Nice with Cape Town in 1974, a city symbolic of apartheid and the racist regime of South Africa, even though the UN had already declared the apartheid regime a crime against humanity.
Let this inspire our current society, so divided, so unjust, so quick to forget our republican motto: Liberty, Equality, Fraternity!
