As every year, the City of Nice and the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis make it a priority to ensure that Christmas celebrations do not result in any misconduct. This year, to facilitate the process for residents, the Metropolis is organizing door-to-door Christmas tree collection rounds on Tuesday, January 5 and 12, 2021.
Dropping a tree in the street is considered illegal dumping and therefore prohibited. That is why the City of Nice is organizing two door-to-door Christmas tree collection rounds for residents who no longer want their Christmas trees. For this purpose, agents from the Collection, Cleanliness, and Green Spaces departments will be mobilized.
The collections will take place on January 5 and 12, 2021. Outside these two collection days, trees must be taken to a recycling center. Any illegal dumping is subject to a fine of up to 1,500 euros. The metropolis also reminds that burning green waste is prohibited for environmental and health reasons, and may result in a fine of up to 450 euros.
By using the Metropolis to collect your tree, or by dropping it off at a recycling center, residents are also guaranteed that their tree will be converted into compost. It is an essential gesture to adopt for the Metropolis, which has made wood recycling a priority, especially during the crisis caused by Storm Alex.
With the help of metropolitan agents, the coastal municipalities (Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Eze, and Cap d’Ail) have collected over 3,700 tons of driftwood from the beaches. This wood has either been sent to recycling channels or transported to the affected communities for heating purposes.
13 recycling centers of the metropolis are accessible free of charge to all residents of the 49 municipalities and remain open during the end-of-year holidays:
