The work involves expanding the reception areas for the public, bringing the workspaces for the staff up to standard, replacing the two furnaces with three new furnaces, installing a smoke filtering system in compliance with regulations, and the mandatory implementation of a video system that allows families who request it to watch the introduction of the coffin into the furnace.
An additional memorial garden will be arranged as an extension of those that already exist.
Operation during the duration of the work:
To ensure the continuity of activities during the duration of the work, the technical equipment and the two furnaces will continue to operate.
Administrative management, welcoming funeral processions, and farewell ceremonies will take place in a temporary structure of four modules installed in front of the caretaker’s office of the Necropolis.
After the ceremony, a funeral vehicle will transport the coffin, without the accompaniment of family members, to the crematorium under renovation.
Currently, the crematorium’s activity slightly exceeds 3,000 cremations per year. The crematorium will operate with two furnaces, with the third furnace operational to avoid any interruption of activity. The funeral services of Nice and the region, as well as cremation associations, have also participated in this planning.
This provisional arrangement will last until the end of the year 2008.
