Competing for the title of European Capital of Culture is a stimulating challenge. This competition, as it is one, requires imagination, cooperation, long-term reflection, and the collective work of the entire Cรดte dโAzur to obtain this label is in itself a major element for the artistic and cultural fabric of the Alpes-Maritimes.
This exhibition, a few days after the submission of the Nice Cรดte dโAzur 2013 application on November 15, 2007, is the ultimate step in this approach which aims to fully engage in the projects of this candidacy.
Starting November 21, the Theater of Photography and Image opens its doors to showcase the result of the call for projects launched at the beginning of the summer with an exhibition that presents itself as the interactive showcase of these projects.
The number of artistic proposals (300) reflects the interest raised by this participatory approach. The objective being that everyone can take ownership of this candidacy. The selection committees worked this summer to select 130 projects, 30 of which are developed in this exhibition.
Again, the spectator is invited to participate and take ownership of the projects presented. The original scenography proposes discovering, as if one were in the very offices of the team, the selected projects, distributed according to the four themes of the candidacy: light, the shore, the baroque, the living and the artificial. An example of an agglomeration project is added: “24 hours crazy!” designed by the city of Grasse.
It is up to the visitor of the exhibition to delve deeper into the subject at their leisure using all the collected documentation and handling the interactive tools at their disposal. An unprecedented approach that matches the original and creative character of the Nice Cรดte dโAzur 2013 candidacy.
This candidacy, which brings together about thirty cities, as well as the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, the University Nice Sophia-Antipolis, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Nice Cรดte dโAzur, and the hoteliers’ union, will be itinerant throughout the department. After Nice, it can notably be visited in Cannes at the Palais des Festivals from December 21 to 31, then in Grasse at the Palais des Congrรจs from February 4 to 17, 2008.
A catalog presents the preliminary projects exhibited by theme.
