The Nice Jazz is having its festival at the Chantier Sang Neuf.

Latest News

The former refrigerated slaughterhouses of the City of Nice have begun their transformation to supply the city with a new blood of CREATION AND RECREATION. While their future is being shaped, the Sang Neuf Project already offers the public festive and exceptional events.

As part of the Nice Jazz Festival OFF 2011, welcome to the NEW SONGS, DANCES, AND SOUNDS of the SANG NEUF PROJECT.

Within the Kunstellation (an ephemeral habitable work by architect designer Didier Fuzia Faustino), as in the corridors and fridges of the slaughterhouses, or on the Vérany overpass turned pedestrian for a fleeting street enchantment, NEW SONGS, DANCES, AND SOUNDS will resonate for the Nice Jazz Festival OFF in the east of the city echoing Place Masséna.

BEEF AT THE SLAUGHTERHOUSES

A jam session led by saxophonist Seb Chaumont and his quartet. The musicians of the quartet will perform compositions by Chaumont and pianist Olivier Slama, who, with Max Miguel (drums) and Sébastien Lamine (double bass), form the rhythm section of the group…
Blues, soul, swing, and the “be bop” language are the major components of a music with a strong and assertive identity. It’s quality hard-bop, 100% acoustic.
The jam will be opened by students of the late trumpeter François Chassagnite from the National Conservatory of Regional Influence, a founding member of what was the 5tet with Seb Chaumont. It will continue until midnight with many guest musicians adding their sounds…

TRACES OF SOUNDS AT THE SLAUGHTERHOUSES

A sound and live journey through jazz influences

Because the Slaughterhouses are a place laden with memory, a memory that questions the relationship the Man has with Nature and with his own nature, the corridor of the butchers and the meat hall will offer a sensitive journey on the musical soul that permeates jazz and allows it to transcend the ages.

  • Orchestration of 4 musical tableaux recorded live by César Valente and his “shadow factory”: African percussion, blues, preacher culture, and the music of J.S. Bach, with participants like Bela Lorent on cello, harmonica player Laurent Valette, and Fatokoma Traoré on percussion.
  • Laurent Sarrien on vibraphone and Olivier Giraudo on guitar
  • The poet-rapper Emmaes Sambalek accompanied by Afro-Cuban percussionists.

IN BODY WITH JAZZ AT THE SLAUGHTERHOUSES

A soul train that involves the bodies and jazz

Because the Slaughterhouses are a place dedicated to flesh, the body, and a space choreographed by advanced mechanization on a circuit of 3 km of suspended rails, and because the credo of saxophonist Sébastien Chaumont’s quartet is that “jazz must appeal to the body,” they will deliver in the Agora a project imagined with François Chassagnite and still unpublished: a battle between the 4 musicians and 4 dancers from the AKA collective (Carlos Lopez).

The public will have the right to resist or join in the dance.
