It is a homecoming for Bertrand Rossi, born in 1973, son of Louis Rossi who was the Administrative Director for four decades at the Opéra Nice Côte d’Azur.
The one who sang all the opera choirs as a child has been appointed to head this lyrical institution which has been seeking stability in its management for some time.
The current Acting General Director is Anne Ginesta-Valentin, who succeeded Éric Chevalier, the latter having been let go (against his wishes) at the beginning of this year 2019, at the end of a three-year contract. The same can be said of his predecessor, Marc Adam, who claimed not to have received an explanation following the non-renewal of his first term (which followed a two-year period without an Artistic Director).
Bertrand Rossi, who was one of the 7 finalist candidates for the directorship at the Nancy Opera last year, climbed the ranks at the Opéra National du Rhin: he was promoted there in 2015, moving from Production Director to Deputy General Director, alongside Director Marc Clémeur until 2017, and then the late Eva Kleinitz (who passed away on May 30, 2019).
He comes to Nice with the primary mission of composing the next season, for which nothing has yet been established. He is also tasked with reforming the institution to give it greater visibility.
