The Nice Premium team stands in solidarity with their colleagues from Nice Matin.

That is why we stand in solidarity with our colleagues whom we respect and who serve as examples for us in this action they have undertaken with the strike movement that prevented the publication of the newspaper yesterday. The situation is quite simple and recurrent these days in the business world: an entrepreneurial group buys a company with external funding, then, to manage the debt, sells what are called “the family jewels”, while perhaps waiting, and sometimes undoubtedly, to sell the company again. This is classic in this (amoral) business world.

However, the problem does not lie there. It is not about criticizing the financial ‘technicalities’ that allow companies to be purchased without having the financial means. But is a press group only a company with economic functioning rules and cash-flow constraints? At Nice Premium, we do not want to venture into a field that is not ours; we know daily what management issues are like, to have a proper balance sheet and the fortune of not having creditors at the door. So, for us, this Nice Matin affair is not just a matter of property ownership. The battle we support with our colleagues from Nice-Matin is rather of a moral order: that of information free from economic constraints that end up creating a leaden cover. What matters to us is not who is or who will be the entrepreneurial group owning Nice-Matin (the current and probable future being anyway enclosed in a political power), what matters to us is maintaining the freedom of information. That is why we want to express our full solidarity with our colleagues from Nice-Matin and assure them of our complete support.
