For ten years (since October 1996), the Nice supercross at the Palais des Expositions had become a renowned annual event, part of the French championship.
In 2006, more than 70 riders competed in 125 and 250 cubic centimeters, with super finals each night followed by jumping contests.
Cheerleaders and spectacular images delighted an ever-growing audience. Well, all of this is over, and another quality sporting event is disappearing. Indeed, the announcement just came: there will be no supercross in Nice this year.
The new rental policy of the Nice Acropolis halls no longer allows the organizers to rent the Palais des Expositions. Patrick Ferraud, president of the Boade motorcycle club, organizer of the event, and the Nice city council were unable to reach an agreement with Nice Acropolis. Thus, the event is canceled 80 days before its opening.
