The Nicolaï Football Stadium in Nice: A Local Sports Policy

jpg_P1014556.jpgCreated in the 1950s, the Nicolaï Stadium has experienced a significant revival in recent weeks. As part of its sports policy, the City of Nice has decided to redevelop this reduced-sized football field (70m x 45m) into a new-generation synthetic field.

The work began on July 21st and was completed on September 26, 2008, for a total amount of €345,611. They included replacing the turf, renovating the fence, and refurbishing the changing rooms and stands.

“It is for me a gesture in memory of my first responsibilities under Jacques Médecin. The Nice I love is a multicultural, multireligious city. That is why I want a municipality close to the neighborhoods, as here in La Madeleine,” declared Christian Estrosi at the inauguration of the new stadium.

“We are not going to stop here”

After the exteriors of the Pasteur and Eucalyptus gymnasiums were refurbished this summer, and with the Leyrit hall currently in progress, the Deputy Mayor does not intend to stop there. Work has just begun at the Stadium of La Clua (Nice-North) for delivery on November 21st. Next year, Mearelli will be renovated, and playgrounds will be built in place of the former Lafayette warehouses in St-Roch. As for the Stade de l’Ouest, it will undergo modernization at the end of 2009.
