“The Night of Shorts and Sports 2,” another perspective on effort presented by the students of the University Côte d’Azur.

Latest News

The second edition of the Night of Shorts and Sports (NCS2) will take place at the Staps in Nice on March 22, organized by the students of the University of Côte d’Azur. An event combining exchange, sharing, passion, and conviviality around sports short films.

“Promote little-known sports disciplines and their actors by causing public amazement. Raise awareness among practitioners about the risks associated with these activities through sharing personal experiences.” This is the goal set by the third-year Sport Management students of the University of Côte d’Azur.

Since September 2020, this group of 16 students has been harmoniously working on this project combining short films, and interventions by athletes and actors from the sports world. The event on March 22 will be entirely created by the 2020/2021 class of the Nice STAPS students.

Project Presentation

NCS2 is a project designed and managed entirely by the students of the STAPS Sport Management department of the University of Côte d’Azur. NCS2 brings together numerous personalities from the sports and media world during a free evening open to the public. Guests will have the opportunity to interact with high-level athletes throughout the evening during post-screening conferences.

The culture and heritage of Nice will also be featured with a buffet of local flavors. The main objective of this major project is to promote little-known sports disciplines while causing public amazement. All of this is through an exceptional moment of sharing and cinematic immersion.

“This project took a long time to take shape, particularly in choosing the theme… We currently have just under two months to offer quality content, and we also have classes, our student life, our friends, our family, and everyone contributes their knowledge and good spirit to this project. […] Regarding the group, most did not know each other before the project began. Now we are a team, collaborators who operate as true project managers, whether it be in communication, logistics, catering, or the other departments we have created to carry out this event project,” explains Quentin Rossi, project manager.

Event Progress

During the project setup and preparations, students will have experienced three different scenarios, notably with the impact of the Covid-19 health crisis:

1°/ Stable health situation (similar to the May-September 2020 period)

The event is held at the initially planned location. The actors and spectators are present at the event site. Barrier gestures and social distancing remain in effect.

2°/ Unstable health situation (similar to the October 2020 period)

The event is maintained at the initially planned location. The actors are present at the site. Spectators follow the event digitally via broadcasting platforms and/or local television channels.

Barrier gestures such as social distancing and mask-wearing remain in effect for the actors. If a curfew is issued, the event schedule may be modified.

3°/ Severe health situation (similar to the March-April 2020 period)

The event is maintained but conducted on a broadcasting platform and/or a television channel for the actors and spectators, with the assistance of an IT technician. VIPs receive a local gourmet basket.

A Very Committed Team

With the 16 collaborators and some twenty interns, the student team from the University Côte d’Azur hopes their NCS2 project will be a great success. Each at their post with a common goal: to attract as many people as possible to this event.

“We are proud to collaborate on this development project for sports unknown to the general public, such as athletics or mountain biking. This project is very enriching because it explores the development of sports, but also local development. As students of the Sports Management department, we learn, we create, we develop ideas, and mini-projects that are inaccessible in other fields. Sports management is a gateway to initiative-taking, teamwork, and the development of sports and cultural projects. As a former member of student associations and developer of event projects, I am very involved and fulfilled in the NCS2 project, which combines sports and short films,” asserts Antonin Foncarnier, press officer.

“The Communication sector is a particularly important actor in our event. It serves to give visibility to NCS2 and to welcome as many people as possible on the day. This visibility is at the heart of our sector. We are a young team with already some experience in this field. The people present in this Communication sector are equally motivated, with overflowing ideas, and they will do everything possible to promote this event on a large scale. The organization of NCS2 is well underway, with the desire to produce a perfect event and satisfy the audience. Just a few more months before this colorful evening!” adds Tom Jomotte, communication manager.

And to top it all off, an honorary guest. Stéphane Diagana, former world champion in 400m hurdles (1997), will be present on stage for the NCS2. His presence will bring a sporty flavor for everyone!

The NCS2 machine is running, launched, and ready to unveil “a different vision of effort”. See you on March 22!
