By awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to the European Union, the Committee gives a lesson of a masterly scale to the skeptical Europeans, the fearful nationals, and the disheartened technocrats of the EU member countries.
Statement by Jean-Marie Cavada, President of the European Movement-France: “While it acknowledges the results of sixty years of peace in prosperity, this Nobel Prize compels us to turn our gaze towards the achievements of the present, which are encapsulated in the Charter of Fundamental Rights. Finally, this distinction exhorts us to complete our mission of peace within the Union and to become, thanks to the political construction we need to amplify, the promoters of freedoms across the world.
It is a great day in the history of the European Continent: it should give pride and courage to finish the work started sixty years ago.”
