“The 2007 edition went well. We managed to iron out the mistakes. We focused on resolving them. They were at the technical, financial, and communication levels. But it is not always easy to find solutions without money.” David Elalouf, the artistic director of Nu-Ziq, provides an assessment while highlighting the difficulties of organizing such an event. “We have a good team. There was more investment from volunteers compared to previous editions. They were there when we needed them. We united them. They got involved and took responsibility,” David rejoices, well aware that without them, nothing would be possible. Attending the opening of the exhibition with the presence of some of the volunteers, one notices the good mood, the chemistry, and it is certainly what captivates interlocutors when they listen to them talk about their organization and their passion. This passion was shared at the beginning of August during the festival.
Passions in the plural for David. As a DJ, his passion for electronic music. But also his passion for his city Nice and his drive to contribute to it. By combining all of this and adding a slogan “Act locally, think globally,” we find David’s ambition to prove that Nice, despite its calm image, is capable of taking action for the young community of 30,000 students: “We have a Jazz festival in Nice, a military music festival. That’s good but we shouldnโt settle for that and convince ourselves itโs enough. We have the means to do more in the 5th largest city in France. The aim is not to make money but to restore pride to the city and ensure young people arenโt forced to leave due to a lack of recognition for what they love.” Listening with one ear, the discourse might seem political or worse, politicized. Listening with both ears, it is merely a desire to exist.
Gradually, thanks to word of mouth, to never quite sufficient but always indispensable support from various communities, the Nu-Ziq Festival is establishing itself in Nice. The organizing association, Elektron, is already at work and the 2008 edition is in preparation. It will take place in June, a date much more in line with the objective of appealing to young Azurians. Little by little, the bird makes its nest.
