Interested in testing your level in the Niçois language? The Mediterranean University Center is hosting the famous Azur dictation, renewed for its 27th edition.
In partnership with various Niçois associations, such as the Institute of Occitan Studies, the Association of Regional Language Teachers, and the Federation of Associations of the County of Nice, the municipality has decided to revive the Occitan Dictation. Since 2008, the promotion of the language, culture, and traditions of Nice has been one of the priorities of Christian Estrosi, committed to preserving the heritage of the City of Nice.
Time certainly flies. Ten years ago, the first French-Niçois bilingual class opened its doors at the Orangers School. Its success led to the creation, in 2020, of a second bilingual school at Fouont Cauda. An Occitan Dictation adapted for children will also take place this Friday, January 26, at 10 a.m. (auditorium of the Louis Nucéra library).
The Occitan Dictation
The Dictada occitana was created in Castres in 1998 by the “Occitan Center del País Castrés.” This event aims to promote the Occitan language, in its dialectal diversity, by highlighting the richness of Occitan literature. Today, more than forty French cities across all of Occitania as well as Barcelona participate. For this 27th edition, Niçois associations continue to unite and bring their expertise to this annual event, which is free and open to all.
So join us this Saturday, January 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the Mediterranean University Center (65, Promenade des Anglais). Please note that you will need to bring your own writing materials. The correction will be distributed to participants and published on nice.fr. New this year, the dictation will be followed by a reception offered by partner associations, a distribution of books in a festive atmosphere, and, icing on the cake, traditional songs!
