The growth of real gross domestic product (GDP) in the OECD area accelerated significantly to 0.6% in the third quarter of 2016, compared to 0.3% in the previous quarter, according to provisional figures.

Growth accelerated in most of the G7 countries in the third quarter of 2016, except for the United Kingdom and Germany, where it slowed to 0.5% and 0.2%, respectively, compared to 0.7% and 0.4% in the previous quarter.

In the United States, growth accelerated to 0.7% in the third quarter of 2016, after a rate of 0.4% in the previous quarter.

GDP also increased in Japan by 0.5%, compared to 0.2% in the previous quarter, in Italy (0.3%), and in France (0.2% respectively, compared to minus 0.1% in the previous quarter).

In the European Union and the euro area, growth remained stable at 0.4% and 0.3%, respectively.

On an annual basis, the GDP growth in the OECD area was 1.7%, a slight increase compared to 1.6% in the previous quarter. Among the G7 countries, the United Kingdom (2.3%) and Germany (1.7%) recorded the highest annual growth rates, while Japan recorded the lowest rate (0.8%).
