Deputy Mayor Rudy Salles presented the program for the Olive Festival, which will take place this Sunday, January 21.
The City of Nice could not have chosen a better place than the Goût de Nice shop to talk about this festival.
It is in this small two-story store, featuring more than 230 local products, that the program was unveiled. It “showcases the entire Metropolis because we also have products that come from all the villages in the hinterland. There is something for every taste,” explained the deputy mayor. Passing through an artificial tree and decorated with small olive trees, it is on the store’s upper floor that he wishes to thank all the men and women who work daily for these local products.
Between wines, olive oil, tapenade, olive paste... The Goût de Nice makes you want to sit at the table, but today it's for the Olive Festival that Rudy Salles gathers presidents and neighborhood committee presidents as well as the Nice Olive Interprofessional Union. He emphasizes that the festival has a dual ambition: to highlight the neighborhoods of Nice and to pass on the traditions of the elders to future generations. "It is aimed at all audiences but at the same time to showcase the heritage of the Nice hills, its richness, and its variety. I am sure that some citizens of Nice will discover their own territory," Mr. Salles rejoices.
The event will start at 10 am and end at 5 pm. Throughout the day and through sales and tasting stands, the city of Nice highlights all sorts of olive growers. At 11:30 am, the contest for the best olive oil will begin, open to the first five amateurs registered and, of course, to all professionals. For the more curious, a conference on olive cultivation is scheduled for 1:45 pm. Laurence Lessatini, from the Nice Olive Professional Union, highlighted the dialogue: “The main goal is to showcase our products but also to discuss them and our daily work for people who do not know how we operate. This allows us to share our culture but also our profession.” This day dedicated to the olive is also aimed at all audiences, thanks to activities for young and old alike. Tales about winter and olives will be told at 2:45 pm.
Everything will be organized at Saint-Pierre-de-Ferric. It is on this Nice hill, enriched with agricultural activities, that Christian Estrosi wished to promote local products. A wise choice to combine landscapes, culture, and sharing.
