The Olympic flame in Nice: it’s tomorrow!

Nice is getting ready to host a historic event: the passing of the Olympic flame. A symbol of peace and unity, the flame will light up our city on June 18, 2024, starting at 4 p.m., on the Quai des ร‰tats-Unis. Come in large numbers to celebrate this exceptional event!

The journey of the flame will begin in Villefranche-sur-Mer, then head towards Grasse. Afterward, it will make a stop in Cannes for the iconic ascent of the steps at the Palais des Festivals. The relay will continue to Valberg and Antibes Juan-les-Pins. The community of Valdeblore โ€“ La Colmiane, with its ski station at the doorstep of the Mercantour National Park, will be the penultimate stop of this journey. The festivities on the Cรดte dโ€™Azur will conclude in Nice.

In Nice, the torch will follow a precise route: it will complete its journey on the Promenade des Anglais heading to Place Massena. It will then head to the Place Garibaldi via the Coulรฉe verte to finally reach the Port. At 7:30 p.m., Stรฉphane Diagana, the last torchbearer before the lighting of the cauldron, will be welcomed by 24 personalities selected by the Alpes-Maritimes Department to form a guard of honor and close the relay.

Program of Activities

To celebrate this event, cultural and sports activities will be organized throughout the area. You will be able to discover sports activities in various disciplines: athletics, basketball, breakdancing, skateboarding, and judo, all organized in the presence of great local champions. The site will open to the public at 3:30 p.m., followed by a public event from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and another hosted by sponsors from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. At 7:00 p.m., a guard of honor will be set up.

Among the highlights, from 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., there will be football freestyle demonstrations in a mixed duo by Renaud Mauleon (Top 16 France) and Sixtine De Mareschal (Top 10 Europe), along with dancing performances by Team Spotlight, semi-finalists of the show “La France a un Incroyable Talent 2018”. A BMX show will also be presented by athletes participating in the Olympics, including BMX flatland, workshops, street art, dance, and a DJ performance with a show.

While waiting for the lighting of the cauldron, the people of Nice will also be able to enjoy initiation stands for graffiti and football freestyle. At 7:20 p.m., the last torchbearer will arrive at the celebration site, enter the sports platform located in the center and ignite the cauldron. The public will then be evacuated from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., before the site closes at 8:00 p.m.

Traffic Conditions

To ensure the smooth running of this event, several roadways will be closed to traffic:

  • Closure Times:
    • Start: around 5:00 p.m.
    • End: gradual reopening of the Promenade Corniglion Molinier and the Promenade des Anglais after the passage of the flame. The arrival zone (cauldron) will reopen at 9:00 p.m.
  • Affected Areas:
    • Closure of the Promenade Corniglion Molinier (south roadway) and its extension, Promenade des Anglais (south roadway), Quai des ร‰tats-Unis.
    • Closure of Avenue Max Gallo.
    • Closure of the south entrance to the Liautaud tunnel.
    • Closure from Quai Papacino corner โ€“ Place รŽle de Beautรฉ โ€“ Rue Gauthier, with restricted circulation on Quai Lunel and Quai Rauba Capeu up to Quai des ร‰tats-Unis at the corner with Avenue Max Gallo.
    • The north roadway of Promenade Corniglion Molinier will also be closed, but very briefly (at the level of Caisse dโ€™ร‰pargne).
