In the context of the extension of the Promenade du Paillon, the City Council has decided to demolish the current site and integrate the National Theatre of Nice (TNN) within the Church of the Franciscans, a large hall, in the future Palais de la Culture, which will be located where the Palais des Expositions currently stands, itself relocated to the west along with other developments.

Where there once was a waste disposal site (!), the work has highlighted an ancient site, an emblematic heritage of Nice’s history with a unique character.

With the Aigle dโ€™Or and the convent complex *, this project, approved by the management of the National Theatre and the State, which is the owner, will allow Nice to have, by the spring of 2022, a new performance hall, exceptional in its modularity, designed to place the spectator at the heart of the theater.

During a “status update” visit, the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, did not hide his satisfaction and, true to his habit, even reiterated: “This project is fully in line with the ambitions I have for the future of Nice: to be worthy of the UNESCO classification, to become the European capital of culture by 2028, and to improve the quality of life for the people of Nice through the extension of the Promenade du Paillon.”

Ipse dixit, despite the announced offensive by Eric Ciotti, an ally of convenience with protest groups and opposition groups EE-LV and RN on the city council, against this decision, requesting its classification as historical heritage.
