As part of the national campaign “Organic and Local, It’s Ideal!”, Agribio 06 is organizing an “Organic and Local, It’s Ideal!” fair with the organic farmers of the Alpes-Maritimes, on September 23rd, at the Antibes Horticultural High School. This agri-cultural event is aimed
at a family audience and aims to promote organic production located in the heart of the territory and raise consumer awareness about issues related to our food.

Between “consuming organic” for health and environmental reasons and “consuming local” to support the local economy, know the origin of your products, and reduce transportation costs and greenhouse gases, it’s difficult for consumers to find a balance. However, organic and local do not oppose each other; on the contrary, they complement each other.

The fair “Organic and Local, It’s Ideal!”, an agri-cultural event focused on promoting local organic products and informing and raising public awareness about issues related to food, cultivated biodiversity, and short supply chains… all in a friendly atmosphere enhanced by performances from local artists!

The program is complete: activities for young and old proposed by farmers and their partners, conferences, culinary events, a seed and organic plant exchange, exhibitions and artistic installations, an organic meal, and a concert to close the day with music!

Main highlights of the day:

50 organic producers from the Alpes-Maritimes: Agribio 06 brings together organic farmers from the Alpes-Maritimes to showcase the diversity of local organic production in a large market. Fruits, vegetables,
bread, dairy products, meats… An opportunity for residents and visitors to discover local riches, taste, and stock up on good organic products grown on local farms (from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM)! The farmers will also share their expertise through activities for young and old.

Four conferences:

o In the message “Organic and Local, It’s Ideal!”, consumer health is at the heart of the debates. That’s why Laurent Chevallier, nutritionist doctor, will present during the conference
“How to Eat Healthy in 2012?” (10:00 AM) the consequences of our current diet on our health and the ways to better choose food products, interpret labels,… to
learn to consume differently, not only to preserve one’s health but also the planet;

o Next, since being a farmer is often synonymous with rural life, this theme will be addressed in a more playful and offbeat way with the gesticulated conference “Rurals or the Convergence of
the Rustics” (2:00 PM). This aims to give a renewed image of the farmer by breaking down prejudices marking rural areas as symbols of backwardness.

o Organic and local, that’s ideal… when there’s room for agricultural lands at the base of food production: this is the topic of the conference “What Use of Land in France and
in PACA by 2050″ (3:30 PM), which will put the notion of food sovereignty within territories into perspective.

o Moreover, during the twentieth century, 80% of the cultivated and consumed plant varieties from previous centuries have been lost. Cultivated biodiversity still forms the foundation of the
food sovereignty of Mediterranean peoples but is now severely threatened by the privatization of life. Local actors will present the “seed guardians” network and answer consumer questions after the screening of the documentary “La fin des haricots” (5:00 PM).

Cultivated Biodiversity Highlighted by the Chefs: At aperitif time, Agribio 06 launches a new challenge to the Toques Brûlées, these young chefs of various types of cuisine
will have to improvise culinary preparations with the market basket. With one difference: only “ancient” varieties will be honored! and more particularly the vegetables from the conservation and multiplication program undertaken as part of the creation of a cross-border network of cultivated biodiversity. Everyone is invited to taste; isn’t it with the best products that we make the best dishes?

A Local Organic Meal:
A complete meal made from organic products from the Alpes-Maritimes will be served (except for the organic rice from Camargue). The goal is to confirm that it is possible to eat seasonal, good, and organic at an affordable price.
