Following the SRU law, the French Communist Party of the Alpes-Maritimes sent a letter to Prefect Hugues Moutouh.
After the January 4, 2024 demonstration, uniting the LFI and the ViVA! gathering around the issue of the SRU law, it is the federation of the French Communist Party of the Alpes-Maritimes (PCF 06) that is addressing the Prefect of the Maralpins on the SRU law and the non-compliance of certain mayors in the department with this law.
The PCF criticizes many mayors of the Alpes-Maritimes for not complying with this law and for wanting to soften it, and demands that heavy sanctions be applied for the non-compliance with the SRU law: “We therefore specifically request that from today you use your authority regarding urban planning authorization requests for construction projects creating housing.” This echoes the decision of the Rhône Prefecture, which deprives municipalities of collective housing construction permits and puts the State in charge of housing requests.
The Communist Party yearns for the same treatments as the Rhône Prefecture for Maralpins municipalities that do not comply with the law, as well as for the imposition of additional heavy fines on the municipalities. The Alpes-Maritimes department respects the SRU law the least in France. A law that requires having 25% of social housing in municipalities with more than 3,500 inhabitants.
