Many people from Nice gathered in Nice to support the Kurdish people who have been victims of atrocities since the beginning of the year in northern Syria. The PCF06 condemns these acts of violence and calls for a diplomatic and humanitarian response.

“Faced with violence, solidarity knows no borders” is the message that the participants wanted to convey when they gathered this Wednesday, January 21st, at the Place Garibaldi in Nice.

A hundred people gathered in the early evening, at the call of the French Communist Party of Alpes-Maritimes (PCF06), to express their support for the Kurdish people, victims of a new wave of violence in northern Syria.

Since January 6, 2026, Kurdish populations have been facing bombings and targeted attacks, particularly in majority Kurdish areas around Aleppo and in the autonomous regions of Rojava. These acts of violence are believed to have already caused the death of many civilians and forced thousands of families to flee their homes.

Organized between 6 PM and 7:30 PM, the static and peaceful gathering aimed to alert public opinion and authorities to a situation deemed “largely ignored by the international community.” The organizers denounced a long history of repression against the Kurdish people and highlighted the humanitarian consequences of the conflict, mentioning civilian populations deprived of safety, healthcare, and freedom.

Through this mobilization, the PCF06 affirms its “steadfast support” for the Kurdish populations suffering from ongoing violence. The party also calls for immediate diplomatic and humanitarian intervention, while reaffirming its rejection of war, ethnic cleansing, and repression.

In a statement signed by its departmental secretary, Julien Picot, the PCF06 invites all progressive organizations, associations, unions, political forces, and citizens of the department to mobilize to make heard “the voice of peace, justice, and fraternity.”

This gathering in Nice, far from the theater of conflict, serves as a reminder that even thousands of kilometers away, citizens’ voices can rise to defend the rights and dignity of a people in distress.
