In Castelsarrasin, the Nice teams shone during the French Torball Cup. The men return as runners-up, the women finish just off the podium.
Last week, a Nice delegation of 14 people hit the road to Tarn-et-Garonne. Their objective: to participate in the French Torball Cup. Players, female players, referees, and officials gathered at the Saint Nicolas de la Grave nature base to experience this sporting adventure together.
The men’s team of ANICES Handisport included François Dumont, Mirlind Sadiku, Soulaymane Jedani, and Yacine Prussia. They were coached by Mikaël Maunier. For the women, Clarisse Gomez, Mélanie Jegat, and Sandrine Filippini were accompanied by the duo Sébastien Filippini and Angélique Leal.
Several Nice members held multiple responsibilities. Sébastien Filippini, for instance, was both coach, national Torball manager, and co-organizer. François Dumont was a player, referee, and also a co-organizer. The same went for Yacine Prussia. The organization was conducted in partnership with Stéphane Déléris from Castelsarrasin.
On the field, the men’s team first won three matches in the group stage: 10-0 against Reims, 13-3 against Laval, then 8-1 against Clermont-Ferrand. In the semi-final, the Niçois prevailed 3 to 1 against Lisieux. They advanced to the final against Toulouse, the reigning champion. Despite a good offensive play, they were defeated 5 to 1 by a strong team. They return with the silver medal.
The Niçois scorers: Soulaymane (16 goals), Mirlind (12), Yacine (4), François (3).
For the women, the Nice team was defeated in the semi-final against Clermont-Ferrand. They finished fourth in the rankings. Kamélya Filippi, also from Nice, played under the Laval colors.
The day ended with an awards ceremony, a musical aperitif, and a dance party. A summer break is anticipated before competitions resume in September.
