The 6th International Pétanque Tournament of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis begins this Friday, May 27th, and lasts until Sunday. It is organized by the Clos de boules “Les amis du château,” along with the City of Nice.
More than 300 teams are expected, with 1,000 pétanque players, including over 60 women’s teams, making up 200 female players. The goal is to attract between 2,000 and 5,000 spectators over the weekend.
In total, 330 pétanque courts have been set up throughout the city. The courts have been placed in iconic locations in Nice: the Castle Hill, the port of Nice, the Promenade des Anglais, and the Place De Lattre de Tassigny.
The tournament is international: teams from Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Monaco, Spain, and even Madagascar will compete. Among the champions present, there are some big names in French pétanque: Dylan Rocher, Mickaël Bonetto, Michel Hatchadourian, Henri Lacroix, and Khaled Lakhal.
The grand finale will take place in the square of honor, at the port. Stands have been installed for the occasion.
