Since 2006, the Sept Off association has organized the Nice PhotoMarathon during its Mediterranean photography festival, modeled after the PhotoMarathons of Copenhagen, Cardiff, Prague, Rotterdam, Berlin, etc. The 2012 edition will take place on June 9.
Building on the success of the 6 editions of the PhotoMarathon, Sept Off sustains this popular and friendly event by adding an international touch.
For this 7th edition, the PhotoMarathon is taking off and becoming an event in its own right. For the first time, it will be held three months before the Sept Off Festival.
► The Nice PhotoMarathon?
It is a film or digital photography contest that takes place throughout a day: Each participant must take 12 photos on 12 imposed themes in 12 hours.
The PhotoMarathon is open to everyone, amateurs and professionals of all ages. Participation in the PhotoMarathon is not about physical condition or technique but rather creativity, improvisation, and adaptation. It’s an opportunity to share experiences and impressions, make connections, (re)discover Nice, and develop one’s own photographic talent.
The first photo marathon took place in New York in the 1980s. Other experiences have developed in many European cities: Copenhagen, Berlin, Stockholm, Prague, Vienna, Cardiff, Cunéo, and Glasgow, mobilizing several hundred participants each year.

Spend an entire day taking photos, with family, friends, alone, or with strangers, generations happily mingling.
Share photographic experiences and impressions together over a cup of coffee or a snack offered by the PhotoMarathon partners, adding to the conviviality of the moment.
Give free rein to inventiveness, creativity, and humor to offer a personal perspective on the themes chosen by the PhotoMarathon team.
– A (re)discovery of Nice and its heritage: Roaming Nice in search of the ideal photo to illustrate the imposed themes allows participants to happily (re)discover the hidden treasures of our city.
A true stylistic exercise for the participants: some themes proposed in previous years: “Hat thief,” “Garibaldi,” “It is 6 o’clock at Place Masséna,” “head up,” “Bare (or) fur,” “American night”.
– An international opening:
The Nice PhotoMarathon participates, alongside those of Copenhagen, Cardiff, and Berlin, in the forum of European photo marathons. A real exchange interface, the site aims to be an effective promotion and networking tool.
A privileged partnership has also been established with the Copenhagen PhotoMarathon. For the 21st edition of the Copenhagen PhotoMarathon, the winner won an extended weekend on the Côte d’Azur to participate in the Nice PhotoMarathon.
