The Foundation chaired by Bernadette Chirac aims to improve the comfort of young hospitalized patients.
The cardboard piggy banks bearing the image of Le Petit Nicolas, intended to collect loose change from the pockets of the French, have been successful once again this year. For its 29th edition, the “Pièces jaunes” campaign, which concluded this weekend, is expected to raise approximately 2 million euros in coins, just like last year.
Once the piggy banks are returned to the 17,000 post offices, the Banque de France will assess the tonnage of metal thus collected, which amounts to a little over 200 tons each year. Based on the metal’s market value, they will determine the amount raised.
Thanks to the funds collected, the Fondation Hôpitaux de Paris-Hôpitaux de France, chaired by Bernadette Chirac, has subsidized numerous initiatives that help improve the daily lives of young patients and their families in hospitals.
Since their inception in 1989, the Pièces jaunes have funded 8,610 projects in 459 cities across France.
