The Place du Palais de Justice has revamped its look… and it’s all the better for it!

Latest News

Continuing its “Reinventing city” operation, the mayor of Nice, accompanied by a delegation of elected officials and association representatives, presented the new configuration of the requalified Place du Palais de Justice and inaugurated the installation of a work by artist Laurent Bosio, “L’oulivié”, in place of the fountain (with the stone paving restored and a textured concrete base created).

For several years, this iconic location was unfortunately occupied by numerous abandoned vehicles (mainly two-wheelers) randomly and illegally parked on the square, disturbing pedestrians and merchants. Traffic and the necessary deliveries to neighboring businesses created dangerous situations and regular tensions.

In response to these observations, and due to aging urban furniture and a defective fountain, the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur and local associations mobilized around a rehabilitation project for the square aiming to beautify it, return its tranquility, and recreate a place for living and meeting.

In addition to Laurent Bosio’s artwork, around which benches have been installed, the area will be enhanced at night with a lighting system.

Regarding parking, about fifty spaces for two-wheelers have been created at the entrance of Vieux-Nice, along Rue de la Préfecture, to improve existing capacities and combat unruly parking, complementing the reorganization of traffic and deliveries in the area.

How can one not appreciate this small step in the right direction? There is reason to hope that it will put an end to the baseless and senseless controversies expressed by some during the announcement of this project.
