The Politicization of Animals in Municipal Elections

Latest News

Isabelle Di Mascio and Christian Razeau announced their candidacy for the 2020 municipal election this Tuesday. An alliance between these two movements has been formed, with the focus on animal defense, aiming to raise awareness on this cause that divides the country.

Isabelle Di Mascio, an activist within the Animalist Party since 2017, and Christian Razeau, the representative of MHAN, expressed last night their desire to run together for the municipal elections in March 2020. A shared desire by the two representatives whose ideas complement each other: “We have the same themes on animals, and we add issues on humans and nature. It is an effective and necessary union.”

One by one, they explained their desires and ideas during this conference.

For Isabelle Di Mascio, this cause is very important because “there are more and more citizens and people from Nice who wish for the animal cause to become a real societal issue, to be seriously addressed in the future, and for concrete measures to be taken both locally and nationally.”

Christian Razeau is also full of proposals. Opposed to circuses, he denounces “the captivity of animals deprived of freedom.” Also, for him, “we cannot practice farming by placing animals of all types in cages. Farming must evolve, and we cannot support that animals are slaughtered while fully conscious.”

To that end, the two candidates “want to raise awareness about respecting animals among very young children so that they realize that animals are also conscious beings. These are creatures that feel pain, joy, and suffering, and we are committed to instilling this in people’s minds.”

Among their strong desires, they both wish for “the creation of a delegation for animal protection, and the appointment of a deputy in charge of animal issues, as well as the deployment of officers authorized to intervene alongside associations in cases of proven animal abuse.”
“Humans have rights, and we wish for animals to have rights too, allowing them to live in our society with full dignity.”

Finally, concerning developments, Isabelle Di Mascio believes that “there is increased awareness, but nonetheless, nothing is won yet, and society remains very divided on these issues.”

A new, even more detailed conference will be held by the entire team on February 7th at 6 PM at the Hotel Splendid.
