This “Franco-Sicilian-Belgian” artist, born in 1966, lives and works in Nice. Since 2004, when he carried out a monumental installation on the Riviera building as part of the Operation “Les murs, un autre regard”, Kristof had not exhibited anything in Nice.
He thus returns with this new project which is the result of two years of research conducted in collaboration with an urban planning laboratory in Sophia Antipolis.
Kristof engages with and within the structure of the Ponchettes gallery, which he fully occupies with color, volume, light, and architecture. His work is created from scanned pictorial gestures, subjected to a computer program analyzing urban flows, then reinterpreted in painting. We are witnessing a scientific and computer decomposition of the act of painting followed by a pictorial reinterpretation of the obtained result.
This cycle of painting is intended to create distance and objectivity from the emotion generated by the painter’s gestures.
Thus, it is the highly scenographic project of an installation combining painting and sculpture that takes over the Ponchettes gallery as a field of experiment.
