โ€œIt’s the big popular event of the start of the school year that welcomes a very large audience,โ€ says Benoรฎt Kandel, First Deputy Mayor of Nice, during the presentation of the event to the press. On Saturday, September 12, 2009, starting at 7 p.m., several activities will be offered at the port for the pleasure of the people of Nice. On the program: a walking parade, fireworks, various popular dances as well as performances by musical artists. This year’s theme is sustainable development and astronomy. A topic that is “in vogue,” recalls Dominique Vivaldi, Port Delegate at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Nice. โ€œIt’s also an opportunity to raise awareness among different generations about sustainable development,โ€ he adds. The Port consists of four quays where Earth and water, the source of life, the Cosmos, and the culture of Nice will be represented through its gastronomy and its Port.

A network of partners

Among the various partners, there is the Slow Food association, which advocates for quality food, notably present in the South-East region and in the Principality of Monaco. Sensitive to biodiversity and the preservation of endangered products, Slow Food works in partnership with renowned Nice-based chefs and pastry chefs. Restaurants including the Negresco Hotel, “Le Chantecler,” and “Le Diamant Noir” will be part of the event. On this occasion, these great culinary chefs will offer the public a selection of dishes at a price of โ‚ฌ5 each. And since this yearโ€™s theme is sustainable development, different containers for waste sorting will be available to visitors. This citizen initiative, initiated by the Chamber of Commerce, helps to give a positive image to the city of Nice.
