After 2 years of construction, the city of Nice presents the transformations of the port’s nursery school. Several changes, including structural and practical ones, have been made. All this is to complement the services that the school offers.
Make no mistake, the port nursery school does not prepare children to become sailors but rather to move on to elementary school, which is a type of class the school has been hosting since 2014.
That was not enough, of course, with a budget of 1.67 million euros, more had to be planned, and fortunately, this is the case. A brand-new cafeteria for the elementary students, the access between the different rooms in the building is more practical, and with that, a bike storage area has been created.
Aside from these developments, everything has been redesigned for increased safety, by updating existing safety standards and emergency exits. The building, after all, dates back to 1910.
Disabled access has improved with a new elevator among other things. Speaking of standards, those for safeguarding against potential earthquakes have also been updated. Another detail important to the administration was the acoustic aspect of the building, specifically the cafeterias, which has been improved.
Before these renovations, carried out by the architect Jean-Baptiste Criesmar, the school could accommodate 337 students for lunch; now it serves 400 meals, and the children have more time to eat. Previously, the administration had to deny access to some students.
Other projects are underway to continue improving school buildings like this one. This is not an isolated case, and many school sites are striving to improve their infrastructure.
