The new regulation enacted this Thursday, August 1st, requires maritime companies serving Nice and daily port users to use less polluting fuels for their boats.
“Let’s not damage our city,” requested Christian Estrosi during his speech on the Nice port quay. The City of Nice and its port, in particular, are working to limit noise and air pollution within the port to ensure the residents’ quality of life.
“Boats must comply with a set of rules that we are duty-bound to enforce,” assured Jean-Pierre Savarino, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Alpes-Maritimes.
“It is important to act firmly against cruise, transport, and ferry fuel consumers while maintaining stable economic activity in the port,” declared Christian Estrosi. Furthermore, the Metropolis is committed to reducing CO2 emissions in the city by 44% by 2025.
The port of Nice will thus benefit from 25 air and noise pollution sensors, allowing for immediate alerts when the set standards are exceeded.
The Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis will officially request the Ministry of the Environment to consider implementing national noise regulations in ports.
An application has been launched and made available to residents to file a complaint or report noise or air pollution. The data will be accessible at the website: www.atmosud.org.
