The traditional fishermen’s festival will take place this Saturday, June 22nd.

Every year, the fishermen of Nice gather to counter the fury of the elements and invoke Saint Peter, their protector. To celebrate this tradition that has endured since the Middle Ages, they come together for a day to pray and observe very specific traditions.

Indeed, after the mass at the Notre-Dame du Port Church, the fishermen will form a procession from the Church to the Entrecasteaux quay where they will board the statues of Saint Peter, the priest, and the Officials. A tribute and a wreath-laying ceremony will be held in honor of the fishermen and sailors lost at sea.

In the evening, the fishermen’s guild gathers on the beach, burns the boat of the poorest among them, and gives him a new one.
