Bernard Gonzalez, Prefect of Alpes Maritimes, has signed an order approving the construction of an extension to Nice Airport.
In this order, made public this Tuesday, December 31, he allows the construction of an additional 25,000 m² area at Terminal T2.2.
This extension can only be carried out by adhering to the guidelines issued by various stakeholders during the procedure: the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, the National Airport Engineering Service, Enedis, the Eau d’Azur management, etc.
Furthermore, the Noise Exposure Plan, in effect since 2005, must continue to be respected for the extension to take place.
Approval from the architects of the Public Establishment for the Development of the Var Plain and the city of Nice is still required. They must ensure that the project integrates seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.
On these points, the Prefecture specifies that “Mr. Prefect will chair a specific meeting at the beginning of 2020, involving the Metropolis, the Airport, and all the concerned administrations, to define the modalities of integration of these studies, of these follow-ups, and of the actions which will result from them in the metropolitan Climate Air Energy Territorial Plan (PCAET), in the Atmospheric Protection Plan (PPA), and, in terms of development, in the Environmental Steering Committee, established in the lower Var Valley, to approach the projects’ impact in a global manner, particularly in terms of cumulative effects, follow-ups, and possible compensations.”
