The 23rd Press and Media Week in schools takes place from March 19 to 24, 2012. On this occasion, we interviewed Ms. Lilia Parisot, Academic Delegate for Media and Information Education (DAEMI), who visited Port-Lympia College.
โ What does your work involve and what do you think you bring to the students?
It is about giving students the opportunity to discover all types of press with the aim of developing their critical thinking and offering them initiatives. For example, in your college, you have the chance to produce a television news program and a paper newspaper. We also handle the training of teachers. Every year, I present to all institutions the national Varennes competition, which you will participate in with the Issa Lympia newspaper.
โ Why did you choose our college?
You are one of the few colleges capable of producing an online television news broadcast and a paper newspaper. Our mission is to highlight this kind of initiative to serve as an example and encourage other institutions to get involved.
โ How long does it take to prepare Press Week?
We prepare for it throughout the year, but we focus particularly on it two or three months in advance.
โ How many departments does your academy cover?
We work in two departments: Alpes-Maritimes and Var. We take care of all the educational institutions within these departments: schools, colleges, and high schools. For example, the day before yesterday I was in a kindergarten that did a project about the newspaper vendor.
โ What will the competition bring to the college?
It can bring you national recognition and, as with all competitions, there will be prizes.
This meeting with Ms. Lilia Parisot gave us insight into how Press and Media Week operates. She helped us discover her job and environment, and allowed us to see communication and news professions from a new perspective.
We will remember from this interview that journalism is a profession of speed and expression, and that above all, one must write with the heart. The fundamental senses are hearing and sight, but we have proven that even without good vision, we can be very good journalists!!!!!!
