Dominique Estrosi-Sassone, President of the Community Local Mission “Objectif Jeunes Nice Côte d’Azur,” presented the Mission’s wishes on Monday, January 27th, in Nice. On this occasion, she outlined the major directions and service offerings of the structure for the year 2015.
The objective of the Local Mission is to help young people access employment, support them, and address all the difficulties they encounter in their professional integration.
The structure welcomed 10,314 young people during the year 2014. This number represents an increase compared to the year 2013 (9,600 registered). “Such a result shows that young people are unfortunately still victims of the economic crisis and unemployment. The absolute priority of the Local Mission is to support these young people who face a certain number of difficulties. The aim is to help them overcome various obstacles related to a lack of mobility, health issues, or financial problems,” explains Dominique Estrosi-Sassone, President of the Local Mission.
Training is a sine qua non condition for acquiring a job. “Many young people have been directed towards alternating work-study contracts. Their integration path lasts between 12 and 24 months to obtain the necessary qualifications. This may seem a bit long to them. Our role is to explain to them that this is an essential step for securing long-term employment,” continues the President of the Local Mission.
The 2015 Perspectives
The Local Mission will continue to develop its relationships with companies without which it is difficult to obtain job offers.
Develop innovative and specific actions, such as driving license assistance. Young people who cannot afford to obtain it will be able to do so. In return, they will give a few hours of their time to associations in the social, humanitarian, or educational fields.
Develop the partnership with the public service: employment agency, state services, and consular chambers that also participate in the youth’s development.
Continue to develop youth apprenticeships and work-study programs, an important lever and source of consistent results. For the President of the Local Mission, when you engage in apprenticeship, you are directly in employment. It allows you to immediately see if the profession suits you, which helps avoid failures by placing young people in actual employment situations.
“Whether they are graduates or not, we support young people to become employable, autonomous, and responsible. It’s important they do not cling to preconceived ideas to find their path. Often, some want to get a job in their neighborhood. The interest lies in leaving their environment, opening up to others, and being dynamic. This is what we try to explain to them. Whatever difficulties they face, a helping hand will always be extended to them,” states Dominique Estrosi-Sassone.
“The Youth Guarantee”
“The Youth Guarantee” aims to provide young people – without qualifications and without a job – a social minimum that did not exist before. It enables them to have a minimum for living in exchange for enrolling in an integration pathway. For now, the youth guarantee has only been implemented experimentally in certain departments. The Alpes-Maritimes department is not affected. Together with the advisers of the Local Mission, we are anticipating and preparing throughout the year to be able to implement the youth guarantee in 2016.
