The project for the new Siena stadium (a city of 50,000 inhabitants located in Tuscany, 50 km south of Florence, globally renowned for its Palio) has won the prestigious “MIPEM Architectural Future Projects Awards 2011.” The award was presented on March 9, 2011 at the Palais Stรฉphanie in Cannes.

The new stadium will be located in Monteroni d’Arbia, a few kilometers from the main town, and will replace the old and outdated “Artemio Franchi” stadium starting in 2013, which is situated in the city center just a few steps from the Basilica of Saint Catherine, characterized by being below road level. The latter serves as a municipal parking lot for the rest of the week.

The Siena team competes in the Serie B championship (equivalent to L2). Last year, the “Robur,” the historic name of the club, was relegated from Serie A to Serie B. Experts believe that the “Robur” should nevertheless be promoted back to Serie A (L1).
