This measure is in addition to the curfew imposed by the government during weekdays. The mayor of the Azure city had nevertheless declared his intention to take additional measures following the speech by Prime Minister Jean Castex.
After announcing yesterday the closure of four textile markets and the implementation of a capacity limit on food markets, Christian Estrosi is preparing to implement other measures. The south sidewalk of the Promenade des Anglais will notably be closed to the public. The mayor specifically fears “too massive gatherings with a weekend that promises to be summery.” Other data has been revealed by Christian Estrosi. Thus, the UK variant accounts for 100% of positive tests conducted in Nice. The danger therefore remains significant in the department.
Numerous checks to enforce compliance with the rules
Christian Estrosi calls for vigilance among the people of Nice, as good weather arrives: “Overcoming the epidemic requires strong local measures.” Nonetheless, the mayor of the city does not hide his concern when mentioning hospital saturation and the fatigue of healthcare workers. “Covid-19 wards occupy 140% of the initial posts in hospitals, leading to the postponement of urgent interventions.”
To accelerate the vaccination campaign in the department, the official also confirmed the creation of a new vaccination center. This fifth center is expected to be located at the Palais des Expositions. Last week, the city received 5,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. During March, 30,000 additional doses should be delivered to the City of Angels. Another update on the situation is expected to be made during the course of next week. Indeed, Christian Estrosi is set to meet with the local scientific council next Thursday. In the meantime, law enforcement will continue to carry out numerous checks to ensure compliance with the rules.
