This Thursday, Christian Estrosi invited local residents to visit the Promenade du Paillon construction site, which is entering its final phase of superstructure deconstruction.ย
The light ignites the authentic facades dating from the 19th century and the view is clear. Indeed, the Promenade du Paillon Season 2 project is entering its final phase of deconstruction. The superstructure that once housed the Palais des Congrรจs is undergoing deconstruction, revealing the silhouette of the Nice Observatory hill, hidden for over 50 years.
Building on the success of the Promenade du Paillon, which attracts more than a million visitors each year, Christian Estrosi wanted to extend this space by an additional 8 hectares to create a vast green lung of freshness and well-being at the heart of the city. This future urban forest aims to adapt to the effects of climate change, and will be “a place of fulfillment that will bring all the people of Nice together,” highlighted the Mayor of Nice.
This project follows a new Green Construction Site approach. Indeed, 100% of the construction materials are upcycled. Of the 670 tons of non-hazardous materials collected since the start of the site, 93% have been upcycled. The reservoirs put in place will provide water for all the trees along this new green corridor. As of today, “all the reservoirs are full with the rain that has fallen in recent days,” said Christian Estrosi.
Key Dates
At the end of June, local residents will have the opportunity to access the Bourgada sector, providing a new green space in the heart of the city. This opening will allow the people of Nice to enjoy the first landscaping developments.
Then, in October, the De Lattre de Tassiny sector will be delivered, further widening access to these much-anticipated green spaces.
However, to fully enjoy these new living spaces, it will be necessary to wait until All Saints’ Day 2025. By then, all planned developments will be completed, offering residents a green setting conducive to meetings and outdoor activities.
